Teaching – Learning processes
Various measures are being taken to improve the quality of teaching and learning
process which helps the student to incorporate new knowledge, skills and behavior in an
effective way.
Processes followed to improve the quality of Teaching & Learning
The processes adopted to improve the teaching and learning is listed below.
A. Adherence to academic calendar (Institute and Department calendar):
For every academic year, a calendar is designed by a council chaired by the
departmental head. The academic calendar is always planned well in accordance with the
university schedule. The calendar comprises the class schedule, internal assessment tests,
university practical examinations, university theory examinations, activities of departmental
associations and other bodies, college day, sports day, fine arts day and details about
holidays.
B. Use of various instructional methods and pedagogical initiatives:
Course allocation is done in advance for the faculty members to prepare the course
plan and lecture notes. Course plan with the course objectives and course outcomes is
approved by the Head of the Department and IQAC after careful exploration. The faculty
members adopt a number of innovative Teaching and Learning methodologies to facilitate the
best learning environment for students. The course file records the syllabus coverage report,
students’ academic records and the detailed course delivery plan. The course delivery
methods employed by the faculty members are listed below:
Lecture method and Interactive learning:
The faculty members employ the traditional black board, overhead projector and
audio-visual aids for teaching. Students are encouraged to interact during lecture hours for
productive learning.

Prototype / Pragmatic way of learning:
Ongoing research work or model prototype are used by the faculty members to deliver
a more practical outlook of the subject to the students. Industrial visits are also conducted to
pragmatically enrich the students’ understanding and to enhance the teaching/learning
process.
Computer-assisted learning:
E-resources are prepared, organized and made available to students through College
Automation Software (CAS) for effective learning. The software includes NPTEL
videos, lecture notes, power point presentation, real time videos, simulation etc.
The department is equipped with a sufficient number of computers, printers, LCD
projectors and latest software.
All the class rooms are equipped with multimedia devices to connect with the laptop,
delivering a higher standard for teaching and learning process.
The campus is enabled with free Wi-Fi facility ensuring the use of internet for
teaching and learning.
Industrial oriented software trainings are provided as per the latest trends in the
Industry.
Methodologies to support weak students and encourage bright students:
Guidelines to identify weak students
The department has a well-defined system to monitor, guide and assist the slow
learners (weak students). To guide and counsel the students, mentor system is followed.
Around 20 students are assigned under the guidance of a mentor. The mentors keep track of
the attendance, academic performance and behavior of the students. The mentors always
keep in contact with their allotted mentees and know them wholesomely. The class
coordinators regularly conduct class committee meetings to discuss the progress of their
class along with the course coordinators and student representatives. The meetings and the
individual student interactions help to identify the weak students, so that proper need and
support can be provided to the respective students. The internal assessment test marks and
attendance are also considered for evaluation and identification of weak students. The criteria
for identifying weak students are shown below:
1. Students scoring less than 50% of marks in Internal Assessment. Additional coaching is given to slow learners
2. Students with less fundamentals in mathematics Conduct special coaching
classes for mathematics
3. Students struggling to understand the concept (students with other than English as a medium of education)
Special classes offered to explain the basic concept in vernacular language

Guidelines to identify bright students
The mentor based system also facilitates to identify the bright students. Proper
measures are taken to encourage the bright students and motivate them to perceive higher studies / high profile jobs. The criteria for identifying bright students are shown below:
1. Students scoring more than 50% of marks in internal assessment. Provided with more study materials.
2. Students who have no arrears Train them for the placement in reputed companies
3. Students securing ranks at university level.Encourage them with awards in
college functions.

Quality of classroom teaching:

The classrooms are well constructed to have good ambience, and to facilitate the
teaching and learning process.
The class starts with a recap of previous lecture.
Brief background information of the topic is also given.
