Report 2023–2024

The Youth Red Cross is the most important constituent of its mother organization, Indian Red Cross. It is a group movement organized for students in colleges and technical institutions.

Installation

Youth Red Cross Inauguration was held on 22nd September 2023. In the morning session, a flex display was planned by the Non-Professional Cells to give awareness to first-year students about the different cells functioning on the campus. The inauguration ceremony started with a prayer song and a welcoming dance. The dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp. The gathering was welcomed by Tamil Mantram. The event was presided over by our correspondent Dr. Maria William. Our Principal Dr. J. Maheswaran felicitated the gathering and highlighted the importance of Non-Professional cells. The faculty advisor and the Office bearers of the YRC for the academic year 2023-2024 were introduced, followed by a photo session. YRC Chairperson Ms. Collins Vinisha from final year ECE A shared her experience in YRC. Fine Arts Club students entertained the gathering with songs, poetry, and dance. The programme ended with a vote of thanks followed by the College Anthem.

Independence Day

Independence Day was celebrated in our college premises on 15th August 2023. Our Correspondent Rev. Fr. Dr. M. Maria William hoisted the National Flag and delivered the Independence Day address. Our Principal Dr. J. Maheswaran gave a special address. National integration awareness cultural programs were conducted by YRC students. The National Anthem was played at the program's conclusion.

Suicide Prevention Awareness Programme

On 25th September 2023, a suicide prevention awareness programme was organized in our college by YRC, Counseling Cell, and Anti–Ragging Cell in association with Peace Trust Kanyakumari and Psychology Department. About 147 students participated. Students performed a skit to create awareness about suicide prevention.

Eye Checkup & General Medicine Camp

Held on 17th October 2023, this camp was jointly organized by YRC, NSS, NCC & Health Care Cell with support from Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital, Bensam Hospital, Rotary Club of Nagercoil Mid-town, and Nagercoil Supreme. About 350 students and staff members benefited. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ebanezer Bensam and presided over by our correspondent Dr. Maria William.

75th Republic Day

The 75th Republic Day was celebrated on 26th January 2024 with a March Past by NCC students. The National Flag was hoisted by our Correspondent Rev. Fr. Dr. M. Maria William followed by the Pledge, Flag Song, and reading of the Preamble. Our Principal, Vice-Principal, and Bursar delivered special addresses. Students performed patriotic songs and dances. Sweets were distributed to participants.

Medical Camp

During the seven-day NSS camp at Muzhavilai village, a general medical camp was conducted on 8th March 2024 by Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences. YRC student members raised awareness among villagers. Dr. N. Sheen Kumar emphasized the importance of blood donation during the session.

Voters Awareness Programme

Conducted on 3rd April 2024 under the guidance of the District Collector in coordination with YRC, this program emphasized the significance of voting in a democracy. Students took a pledge on the right to vote and were educated on ethical voting practices.

Drug Awareness Program

On 10th April 2024, YRC in collaboration with the Counselling Cell and Women’s Cell organized a Drug Awareness Program. Chief Guest Mr. Kanakaraj, Sub Inspector of Police, shared real-life experiences and warned students about the dangers of drug addiction. The program received positive feedback.
