The day began with NSS volunteers gathering at the college reception. The program was inaugurated by our Principal, Dr. J. Maheshwaran. Under the guidance of our NSS programme officers, Mr. Agnel Livingston and Mr. John Paul, our group departed for the camp site at Palliyadi village around 9:30 AM. The camp began with a lunch feast organized under the Unity Religion Committee, where we shared meals and celebrated togetherness. We also did volunteering duty there at Palayapalli appa thiruthalam.

After the lunch, we had a tea break, allowing us to relax and interact with fellow participants. A session with our college bursar followed, where he delivered an insightful speech on social service and gave valuable advice on how we can contribute to society through our efforts. We then took some time to refresh ourselves before engaging in a feedback session with our seniors, where we shared our experiences and learned from their insights. To conclude the day, we prepared dinner together as a team, strengthening our bond through teamwork and collaboration. The day was filled with meaningful interactions, learning experiences, and a sense of togetherness, aligning with the core values of NSS.

The day began early with a tea break at 6:00 AM, energizing all participants for the tasks ahead. Fieldwork commenced at 6:30 AM and continued until 8:00 AM, during which volunteers engaged in community service activities. We removed plastic waste, dry leaves, and other debris to ensure a cleaner environment. Some volunteers engaged with locals, discussing waste management and the importance of maintaining cleanliness. We identified water stagnation areas and took steps to improve drainage and water storage solutions. This fieldwork not only contributed to the community but also helped us understand the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and civic engagement.After freshening up, we had a nutritious breakfast at 9:00 AM. From 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, we conducted an English workshop for high school students, focusing on enhancing their language skills through interactive sessions. Post-workshop, we had a lunch prepared by our own team members, fostering teamwork and self-reliance. Following lunch, we took some time to prepare for the cultural programs scheduled for the evening. The cultural events took place from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, where volunteers showcased their talents in singing, dancing, and drama. After the performances, we enjoyed a refreshing tea break. In the evening, we attended a motivational session and an awareness program about NSS, led by our NSS Programme Officers. This session provided valuable insights into the impact and significance of our service.

The day started early with a wake-up call at 5:00 AM. After freshening up, we gathered for a tea break at 6:00 AM, which helped us energize for the day’s activities. From 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM, we engaged in fieldwork, contributing to community service by cleaning and maintaining the surroundings. Our field work also included tree plantation drive which was an important step towards environmental sustainability and we were proud to contribute to a greener future. Following breakfast, we conducted an interactive session with high school and primary school students from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The session focused on various topics that helped students gain knowledge and motivation. After the morning session, we took some time to arrange materials and prepare for the next event. From 2:15 PM to 4:00 PM, we organized a special session in collaboration with NCC volunteers and school students. This session focused on safety, precautionary measures, and first aid, including a live demonstration to help students understand emergency response techniques. At 5:00 PM, we took a tea break to refresh ourselves before the evening activities. In the evening, from 5:20 PM to 6:30 PM, we participated in a house visit program in Palliyadi village. This initiative allowed us to interact with local families, understand their needs, and spread awareness about community welfare. After returning to the camp, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, we sat together to document the day’s activities by writing a report. This helped us reflect on our contributions and plan better for the upcoming days. Finally, we had dinner from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, once again prepared by our team. After a long and fulfilling day, we went to bed to rest and prepare for the next day’s activities.

The day began at 5:00 AM, with all NSS volunteers waking up early and preparing for the day's activities. The fresh morning air and the collective enthusiasm of the team set a positive tone for the day. At 6:30 AM, we had a tea break, which served as a refreshing start before we headed for the major tasks planned for the day. Post the tea break, we engaged in fieldwork and a tree plantation drive, emphasizing environmental conservation. During this activity, our Vice Principal arrived as the Chief Guest. His presence motivated us, and he actively participated in the plantation drive, symbolizing the importance of greenery and sustainability. His encouraging words reinforced our commitment to environmental causes. After the morning activities, we had a nutritious breakfast at 9:30 AM to regain energy. Following the breakfast, our college staff conducted special sessions designed to engage and educate students on various topics, including leadership, teamwork, social responsibility, and development. These interactive sessions were highly beneficial, providing both practical knowledge and inspiration. In between the sessions, we had lunch, which was prepared by our NSS team. Cooking and eating together fostered a sense of teamwork and self-reliance, reinforcing the core values of NSS—community living and selfless service. At 7:00 PM, our Principal arrived at the camp to interact with the volunteers and observe the camp activities. To honour his visit, we had arranged special events, including cultural performances and team activities, which were performed by our NSS members. The Principal thoroughly enjoyed the performances and appreciated the dedication and enthusiasm of the volunteers. He also delivered a motivational speech, highlighting the importance of NSS in shaping responsible citizens. His words encouraged us to continue our commitment to social service. After a long and eventful day, we had dinner together, sharing our experiences and reflections on the day's activities. Finally, we retired for the night, feeling fulfilled and motivated.

The NSS camp began early in the morning with all participants waking up at 5:00 AM, setting the tone for a disciplined and productive day. At 6:30 AM, we had a refreshing tea break, which helped energize us for the morning tasks. Following this, from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM, we engaged in fieldwork near the pond, contributing to environmental conservation efforts and community service. This activity involved cleaning, maintenance, and possibly some restoration work to enhance the ecosystem. After the fieldwork, we had our breakfast from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM, providing us with the necessary nutrition to continue the day's activities. Post breakfast, the camp took a fun and interactive turn with a fun session featuring games like musical chairs. This session helped us relax, bond as a team, and foster a sense of camaraderie. At 12:30 PM, we had our lunch break, which was a time to rest and regain energy. The afternoon session was dedicated to practicing for the upcoming events scheduled for the next day. Additionally, we had an important discussion about the agenda, ensuring everyone was well-prepared for future activities. The day concluded with a dinner at 9:30 PM, marking the end of an eventful and fulfilling day at the NSS camp.

The day at the NSS camp began early with all volunteers waking up at 5:00 AM. After freshening up, we had a tea break at 6:30 AM, preparing ourselves for the fieldwork. From 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM, we actively engaged in fieldwork, contributing to community service. Later, students from our college’s EnSav Club joined us at the camp. Alongside the NSS volunteers, they conducted an awareness session on energy conservation, educating the local public about the importance of saving energy and using resources efficiently.After a productive morning, we had lunch together, fostering camaraderie among the volunteers. In the afternoon, we had a special visit from our correspondent, who came to encourage and support our camp. To welcome him, we organized cultural activities and speeches, which he greatly appreciated. He also shared his valuable suggestions and extended his support to our initiatives. As the day came to an end, we gathered for dinner, which was specially prepared by our NSS volunteers. The meal symbolized teamwork and self-sufficiency, reinforcing the values of community living and service.

The final day of our NSS camp began with an early wake-up at 5:00 AM. After getting ready, we had a refreshing tea break at 6:30 AM, preparing ourselves for the activities ahead. Our NSS team prepared a delicious breakfast, which we all enjoyed together. After breakfast, we gathered for a small meeting where we reflected on our experiences, shared our thoughts, and discussed the impact of the camp on both the community and ourselves. Before leaving, we captured memorable moments by taking group photos, preserving the bonds and friendships formed during the camp. With hearts full of memories and a renewed sense of social responsibility, we left the camp, carrying forward the lessons and experiences gained during our time there.

CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMME & RALLY (04.02.2025)

The NSS unit of St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering successfully organized a Cancer Awareness Program at St. Xavier’s Hospital. The initiative aimed to educate the public about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The event commenced with an awareness session conducted by medical professionals from St. Xavier’s Hospital. The session covered topics such as cancer symptoms, risk factors, preventive measures, and available treatments. Experts emphasized the importance of regular check-ups and a balanced diet to reduce the risk of cancer. 88 NSS volunteers actively participated in the program.

Following the session, the volunteers organized a rally to further spread awareness in the surrounding community. Holding banners and placards with impactful messages, the volunteers walked through key areas, chanting slogans about cancer awareness and prevention. The rally attracted the attention of many local residents, who expressed their appreciation for the initiative. The Cancer Awareness Program was a significant step in spreading crucial health information to the public. The dedication and enthusiasm of the NSS volunteers played a key role in making the event a success. The NSS unit of St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering remains committed to conducting more such awareness programs in the future to contribute to society’s well-being.

REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS (26.01.2025)

On the occasion of our country’s 76th Republic Day, the NSS Unit, in collaboration with the NCC and YRC Units, organized a Republic Day celebration at our college. The event began with a flag hoisting ceremony, led by our Correspondent, Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus, followed by the Republic Day address from our Principal, Dr. J Maheshwaran. Around 25 NSS volunteers actively participated in the celebration.

The program began with a welcome dance performed by the Fine Arts Club, setting a patriotic tone for the celebration. This was followed by a patriotic song, beautifully sung by the students, evoking a sense of unity and pride. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the volunteers and performers for their dedication and efforts. Finally, the event concluded with the National Anthem.

The three-day event called “Kumari Fest" was conducted on the premises of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering from 23/01/2025 to 25/01/2025. The event showcased the pronounced cultural heritage of our Kanyakumari district. In this event, the NSS volunteers of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering involved themselves in organizing the event smoothly and properly.

The volunteers extended their work in guiding the people to stalls, organizing the parking of vehicles, organizing the events taking place in the auditorium and the outdoors, arranging refreshments for the event guests and more. The three days were successfully organized, and the volunteers had done their best to make the event successful.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME AND RALLY ON CRIME AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN (19.11.2024)

An awareness programme on Crime against women and children and the launching of the ‘Police Akka’ by the Government of Tamilnadu was held on 19th November 2024 on our campus. Our Principal Dr. J. Maheswaran inaugurated the event with his inaugural address. Our Correspondent Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus and the Vice Principal Dr. J. Christus Jeya Singh felicitated the campaign.

Tr. Mohan Dhas, ADSP of Cyber Crime, Nagercoil and Tr. Chandra Sekeran, DSP were the guests. The guests addressed the importance of crime against women and children and the steps to be taken/followed during any such incident. After the awareness programme, a rally was begun starting from the college and ended at the district collector's office.

The NSS team of our institution organized an Anti-Corruption campaign and rally on 29th October 2024. Our Principal Dr. J. Maheswaran inaugurated the event with his inaugural address. Our Correspondent Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus, our Financial Administrator Rev. Fr. R. Xavier Raj and the Vice Principal Dr. J. Christus Jeya Singh felicitated the campaign.

Tr. G. Hector Dharmaraj, Additional Superintendent of Police, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Kanyakumari District was the chief guest. The chief guest addressed the evils of corruption in modern society. A pledge of honour was taken by everyone who attended. Around 30 volunteers attended the campaign. In the end, an awareness rally on anti-corruption began from the college, and awareness pamphlets were issued to the public by the volunteers.

SWATCHHATA HI SEVA - CLEAN INDIA AWARENESS TALK AND ESSAY SLOGAN WRITING (01.10.2024)

The NSS units I and II of St Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering conducted a programme on Swatchhata Hi Seva – Clean India Awareness Talk and Essay Slogan Writing on 1st October 2024. Around 63 students of our institution actively participated in the event.

The mission of the programme is to create awareness to bring out behavioural changes and move towards a clean India mission. A Swatchhata awareness talk was given by our NSS Programme Officer Mr. L.G.X. Agnel Livingston. An essay writing, slogan writing and drawing competition was conducted on the theme Swatchhata Hi Seva to enhance creativity and thoughts about Clean India mission among students.

One of the volunteers of our NSS units presented a seminar on the topic “Swatchhata Hi Seva”, with the view to making fitness an integral part of our daily lives.

SWATCHHATA HI SEVA MEGA CLEAN PROGRAMME-KARUPPUCODE (28.09.2024)

The NSS units (Unit-I 1383 and Unit-II 1384) of St Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering in association with NSS Units of St Lawrence Higher Secondary School, Madathattuvilai, Yettacode Higher Secondary School, Yettacode and Villukuri Town Panchayat has organized Swatchhata Hi Seva Mega Clean Programme at Karuppucode village, Villukuri Town Panchayat.

Around 124 NSS volunteers of St Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering, St Lawrence Higher Secondary School and Yettacode Higher Secondary School and 4 Programme Officers actively participated in the event. The volunteers actively participated in the fieldwork areas shown by the local Town Panchayat, Villukuri.

The volunteers cleaned all possible non-biodegradable wastes in the surrounding areas and collected around 400 kg of plastic waste and handed them over to the local Town Panchayat, Villukuri. The Panchayat officers of Villukuri attended the campaign and appreciated our college NSS students.

The YRC, NSS, and NCC of St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering conducted a blood donation camp at the ‘ROCK AUDITORIUM’ of St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering on 25th September 2024 in association with the Kanyakumari Government Medical College and Hospital, Aasaripallam.

The camp started with a prayer song sung by the YRC Choir, followed by the blood donation session under the guidance of a team of doctors from the Government Medical College. Over 70+ people participated and donated blood. Around 10 NSS volunteers and our Programme Officer Mr. L.G.X. Agnel Livingston also donated blood. A Blood Donation Appreciation Award was received from the Dean Dr. D. Leo David.

The formal inauguration of the Non-professional cells of our Institution for the academic year 2024-25 was held on 29th August 2024. The program started at 2.30 pm with the prayer song. The meeting Guests were our beloved Correspondent Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus, our Financial Administrator Rev. Fr. R. Xavier Raj and Principal Dr. J. Maheswaran.

The Vice Principal and the Coordinator of Non-professional Cells Dr. J. Christus Jeyasingh gave the special talk. The office bearers of NSS for the academic year 2024-2025 were introduced. Following NSS various Non-professional cells of SXCCE like NCC, YRC, Fine arts club, Tamil Mantam, Jyothis, Eco club, Radio club, Women’s cell, etc were inaugurated. Our NSS volunteers performed cultural events. The Financial Administrator Rev. Fr. R. Xavier Raj and our Principal Dr. M. Maheshwaran felicitated the gathering. The Correspondent Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus inaugurated the function with his presidential address. The program came to an end with the national anthem.

Young people are the foundation of our society and have the power to propel the advancement of our nation. The fear of drug addiction, however, could obstruct this advancement. On August 28, 2024, our college's National Service Scheme held a Drug Awareness Program Pledge in recognition of the seriousness of the situation. The purpose of the event was to encourage a better lifestyle and educate young people about the dangers of drug misuse.

INDEPENDENCE DAY (15.08.2024)

On August 15, 2024, St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering (Autonomous), Chunkankadai, celebrated the 78th Independence Day of our nation with a patriotic display of zeal and excitement on campus. The event took place in the dignified presence of the Correspondent, the Principal, Faculty members and students, and special guests.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) started the festivities at 8:30 am with a dynamic March Past that demonstrated discipline and solidarity. Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus, the Correspondent of St.Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering raised the fluttering tricolor, symbolically starting the day's festivities. As a remembrance of the sacrifices made by our ancestors, the Independence Day celebrations at the conference hall, motivated everyone in attendance to preserve the principles of liberty, harmony, and advancement.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY (21.06.2024)

The NSS units of St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering celebrated International Yoga Day on 21-06-2024 from 7:30 am to 8:30 am in the Conference Hall. The event started around 7:30 am. Around 30 NSS volunteers attended this event. Our college NCC volunteers and YRC members joined the event. The session was guided by yoga professionals from our college.

The professionals explained the benefits of yoga and how it helps improve both physical and mental health. They demonstrated various asanas such as PADMASANA, VRKSASANA, NATARAJASANA, BHUJANGASANA, HASTAUTTANASANA, MARICHYASANA, CHATURANGA DANDASANA, SVANASANA, and VIRABHADRASANA. The program concluded successfully at 8:15 am, followed by breakfast for all participants.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of SXCCE organized a special event ‘Earth Hour India 2024’ on 23rd March 2024. Mrs. C. Sudhamathy, an Environmentalist, presented a seminar on the “Impact of Climate Change on Bird Migration.” About 107 NSS volunteers and students from various departments attended the programme.
