1. SPECIAL CAMP MAR 2024

A special camp for the year 2023-2024 was conducted from 04-03-2024 to 10-03-2024 in the village ‘Muzhavilai’, Vilanvancode Taluk, Kanyakumari District. Around 100 NSS volunteers attended and performed NSS activities. Our Principal Dr. J. Maheshwaran inaugurated this programme. The NSS Volunteers actively participated in all the events individually and also as a group, thus improving their social and cultural skills. (Detailed report enclosed)

2. REPUBLIC DAY 26.01.2024

The campus of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering (Autonomous), Chunkankadai, was adorned with patriotic enthusiasm as the institution celebrated the Republic Day of our Country on January 26, 2024. The event took place in the dignified presence of the Correspondent, the Principal and special guests. The celebrations commenced at 8:30 am with a spirited March Past by the National Cadet Corps (NCC), showcasing discipline and unity. The fluttering tricolor was then hoisted by Rev. Fr. Dr. M. Maria William, marking the symbolic start of the day's festivities. Following this, several programmes were organized by our NSS students, reaffirming the commitment to the nation.

3. KUMARI FESTIVAL 2024 (11.01.2024 to 13.01.2024)

The three days event called "Meendelum Kumari" was conducted on the premises of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering from 11/01/2024 to 13/01/2024. The event showcased the pronounced cultural heritage of our Kanyakumari district. In that event the NSS volunteers of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering involved themselves in organizing the event in a smooth and proper way. The volunteers extended their works in organizing the parking of vehicles, guiding the people to stalls, organizing the events taking place in the auditorium and in the outdoor, arranging refreshments for the event guests and more. The three days were successfully organized and the volunteers had put the most they could and made the event a successful one.

4. AADHAAR CAMP UPDATE FROM POSTAL DEPT (22.12.2023)

An Orientation camp was arranged for students, staff and local people towards Aadhaar correction and updation, held on 22.12.2023, in association with the Postal Department of India.

This programme was arranged for all the students, staff and the public. They were requested to bring Aadhaar Card, Election ID Card and Smart Phone for linking their Aadhaar number with their Voter ID. Necessary arrangements were made by the NSS Programme Officers Mr. L. G. X. Agnel Livingston and Mr. F. John Paul. The camp was held successfully from 09.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. Around 132 participants attended the camp and got benefitted.

5. AADHAAR CAMP UPDATE DATA COLLECTION (19.12.2023)

Our NSS volunteers conducted Aadhaar correction and updation Data Collection on 19/12/2023 (Tuesday) in the villages Ambedkar Colony and Indira Nagar, Chunkankadai. Awareness street rallies and door-to-door visits were carried out to inform residents about the upcoming Aadhaar updation camp, supported by the Postal Department of India.

1. MAKKALUDAN MUDHALVAR – TN GOVT PROGRAMME (22.11.2023)

Makazhudan Mudhalvar scheme was conducted in Nagercoil Corporation Ward 1, 2, 3 Aloor Regional office at 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. This event aimed to collect petitions and requests for help through the government. Numerous participants such as government officials, Nagercoil corporation officials, co-operative members, municipality members, etc., took part. The Honorable Collector of Kanyakumari District gave his special supervision during this event. The corporation officers sought help from our college NSS volunteers.

This event began at 9:00 am with a warm welcome and registration of the public. Our NSS volunteers worked alongside municipal officers—assisting the public by filling out registration forms, writing petitions, and guiding them.

Around 296 people were registered. About 8 stalls were set up, each representing a community service like E-SEVAI MAIYAM, EB, MUNICIPALITY, and WATER MANAGEMENT SECTOR, etc. The event concluded at 2:30 pm with lunch provided to every volunteer.

2. ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR VOLUNTEERS (28.10.2023)

Our NSS senior volunteers organized an orientation programme for the junior NSS volunteers. Around 45 volunteers attended and benefitted from the session.

3. EYE CHECKUP AND GENERAL MEDICAL CAMP (17.10.2023)

The NSS Cell, NCC Cell, and YRC Club of St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering jointly organized an Eye Checkup and General Medical Camp in association with Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital, Bensam Hospital, and The Rotary Club of Nagercoil on 17th October from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Conference Hall.

The camp aimed to provide essential healthcare services to underprivileged and economically disadvantaged individuals. Participants included students, staff, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, YRC members, and our college healthcare staff. The event began with registration and a warm welcome.

Eye Checkup Services: Certified optometrists and ophthalmologists provided free eye exams. Prescription glasses were distributed to those in need.

General Medical Services: A team of medical professionals conducted general health checkups, including blood pressure, sugar level, and BMI measurements, and distributed basic medications.

3. TREE PLANTATION DRIVE - “MY EARTH - MY DUTY” (23.09.2023)

The NSS wing organized a remarkable Mega Tree Plantation Drive on 23rd Sep 2023 at St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering, Chunkankadai on venue at the campus ground. The event aimed to promote environmental conservation and create awareness about the significance of planting trees.

Mimusops elengi (Borsali)
Cordia dichotoma (Gunda)

On the mega tree plantation program, all our dedicated volunteers promptly convened at the reception area at 9:00 am. Following a comprehensive briefing session, our enthusiastic volunteers made their way to the designated tree plantation site. The inauguration of this monumental event was graced by the presence of our esteemed principal, Dr. J. Maheshwaran, and our esteemed Vice Principal, Dr. V. Christus Jayasingh. Our program officers, Prof. L. G. X. Agnel Livingston (AP/CSE) and Prof. F. John Paul (AP/CE), were also instrumental in steering the initiative.

Respected Principal, Dr. J. Maheshwaran, beloved Vice Principal, Dr. V. Christus Jayasingh and the Programme Officer Prof. L. G. X. Agnel Livingston (AP/CSE) inaugurated the event and started the event by planting the first sapling.

Our passionate volunteers were organized into various teams, each embarking on the noble task of planting trees. The collective effort and dedication of these teams were truly remarkable.

The Correspondent Rev. Fr. Dr. M. Maria William overviewed the event and gave a cheerful talk to the active volunteers by planting the tree saplings. The Bursar Rev. Fr. M. Francis Xavier encouraged our NSS volunteers by actively planting a tree with the Programme Officers.

As the clock struck 12:30 pm, the program reached its conclusion, leaving behind a greener, more sustainable environment as a testament to our collective commitment. Our Programme Officer Prof. F. John Paul thanked the volunteers who participated in this mega tree plantation event.

3. INAUGURATION OF NON-PROFESSIONAL CELLS (22.09.2023)

The formal inauguration of the Non-professional cells of our Institution for the academic year 2023-24 was held on 22nd September 2023. Exhibition stalls of the activities of all the Non-Professional Cells of our institution were showcased on the Basement floor of Block A. All first year students and faculty members visited the stalls from 1.00 p.m. on the day. The Office Bearers of various cells explained the functioning of their cells briefly. After visiting the stalls, the students assembled in the Conference Hall.

The program started at 2.00 pm with the prayer song. The meeting Guests were our beloved Correspondent Rev. Fr. Dr. M. Maria William and Principal Dr. J. Maheswaran. The Vice Principal and the Coordinator of Non-professional Cells Dr. J. Christus Jeyasingh gave the special talk. The office bearers of NSS for the academic year 2023-2024 were introduced. Our NSS year volunteer Mr. Harris presented his experience as a NSS Volunteer in our institution. Following NSS, various Non-professional cells of SXCCE like NCC, YRC, Fine Arts Club, Tamil Mandram, Jyothis, Eco Club, Radio Club, Women’s Cell, etc. were inaugurated. Our NSS volunteers performed cultural events. The Principal Dr. M. Maheshwaran felicitated the gathering. The Correspondent Rev. Fr. Dr. M. Maria William inaugurated the function with his presidential address. The program came to an end with the national anthem.

4. INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY (21.06.2023)

The NSS units of St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering celebrated International Yoga Day on 21-06-2023 from 7:30 am to 8:30 am in the Conference Hall.

The event started around 7:30 am. Around 15 NSS volunteers attended this event. Our college NCC volunteers and YRC members joined in this event. The event was guided by yoga professionals from our college. The professionals taught the benefits of yoga and demonstrated how to maintain and improve physical and mental health.

They taught different ASANAS like PADMASANA, VRKSASANA, NATARAJASANA, BHUJANGASANA, HASTAUTTANASANA, MARICHYASANA, CHATURANGA DANDASANA, SVANASANA, VIRABHADRASANA, etc.

The program ended successfully by 8:15 am. Our NSS Programme Officer Mr. L. G. X. Agnel Livingston gave a speech on how to overcome stress and concluded the event with a vote of thanks. After the event, breakfast was provided for all the volunteers.

BEST NSS VOLUNTEER AWARD APPLICATION – JULY 2023

Two of our NSS volunteers Ms. R. Sahaya Jincy and Mr. M. V. Monish have applied for the ‘Best NSS Volunteer’ award for the academic year 2022-23. Their dedication, participation in multiple community outreach programs, leadership qualities, and consistent involvement in NSS activities have made them strong contenders for this recognition.

DRUG AWARENESS PROGRAMME (09.08.2023)

The youth, often referred to as the pillars of our society, hold the potential for driving our country’s growth and development. However, the menace of drug addiction threatens to impede this progress. Recognizing the gravity of this situation, the National Service Scheme of our college has organized a Drug Awareness Programme and Social Justice Camp on 09/08/2023. The event aimed to enlighten the youth about the perils of drug abuse and promote a healthier lifestyle.

The Drug Awareness Programme commenced at 02:30 pm in the Einstein seminar hall. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. A. Balakrishnan, Statistical Inspector, Revenue Department, Kanyakumari District and Officials from Tamil Nadu Police Department. The audience, consisting of our college students, gathered with a shared commitment to combating the rising challenges of drug addiction.

The inaugural session began with a warm welcome extended to all attendees by one of our NSS volunteers. In his thought-provoking address, Mr. A. Balakrishnan emphasized the alarming consequences of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society. He underscored education's vital role in empowering youth to make informed choices and lead productive lives.

In addition to discussing drug awareness, Mr. A. Balakrishnan touched upon the importance of responsible mobile phone usage and the necessity of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers. He also highlighted the significance of obtaining vehicle insurance, ensuring safety for the vehicle owners and others on the road. Accompanying police officers also added their insights on this issue.

Next, our Programme Officer, Mr. L. G. X. Agnel Livingston, gave a talk about the intricacies of data storage on the Internet, shedding light on the importance of responsible mobile phone usage. He encouraged everyone to be mindful of the apps they install, the permissions they grant, and the websites they visit to ensure their data remains secure and their online activities remain private.

The Drug Awareness Programme came to a close at 4:15 pm, leaving a lasting impact on all participants. The event succeeded in delivering valuable insights into the dangers of drug addiction, the significance of education and learning, responsible behavior on the road, and the importance of safeguarding oneself in the virtual world. Around 97 students participated and got benefitted.

The vibrant spirit of youth and their integral role in India's Development took center stage at the International Youth Day Celebrations organized by the National Service Scheme units of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering on August 12, 2023. The event unfolded at the Conference Hall, providing a platform for students to showcase their talents and perspectives.

Themed around "Role of Youth in India's Development", the day kicked off with the English Essay Writing competition from 11:00 am to 11:30 am. A total of 20 participants passionately articulated their insights on this pivotal topic, shedding light on the diverse ways in which youth contribute to the nation's progress.

Following this, the Tamil Essay Writing competition unfolded from 11:40 am to 12:10 pm, where 22 participants eloquently expressed their thoughts in their native language, emphasizing the cultural diversity that enriches India's development journey.

Distinguished judges, Ms. F. Adline Aruna (AP / HSc) and Ms. F. S. Abisha (AP / HSc) evaluated the Tamil and English Essay Writing competitions.

The afternoon session, commencing at 1:00 pm, saw the English and Tamil Elocution competitions. Students presented compelling speeches that highlighted their vision for India's growth and their pivotal role in shaping its future.

Simultaneously, the Solo and Group Song performances began, filling the hall with melodious harmonies. A total of 11 Solo Song participants and 3 dynamic Group Song teams showcased their musical talents, further reinforcing the theme of youth's impactful contribution.

Distinguished judges, Mrs. P. R. Sheebha Rani (AP & HOD / CSE), Mrs. J. S. Simi Mole (AP / CSE), and Mrs. A. Annie Portia (AP / AI&DS), evaluated the Tamil and English Elocution competitions and the Group and Solo Song performances, lending their expertise and adding a touch of professionalism to the event.

The much-anticipated winners were announced, celebrating the exceptional talents and efforts of the participants. As the clock struck 4:15 pm, the celebrations came to an end, leaving an atmosphere of accomplishment and unity.

The International Youth Day Celebrations, orchestrated by the NSS of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering, not only underscored the pivotal role of youth in India's development but also fostered a sense of pride and unity among the participants.
